A minimum of 100 room salons in Seoul bribed police from 2007-2012

April 4th, 2012 . by Errol

Prosecutors said they have found police officers in Seoul receiving bribes from more than 100 room salon (hostess bar) owners regularly in return for covering up the owners’ violations in the last five years.

Each owner paid 2 million won to 10 million won monthly.

The prosecutors said they have secured a list of names of room salons in Yeoksam-dong and Samseong-dong in southern Seoul, as well as illegal massage places, that bribed Lee.

The prosecutors said these shops are very famous for their sex services, disguising themselves as normal bars but employing their hostesses or masseuses as prostitutes.

The prosecutors also said that the officers traveled to Thailand seven to eight times since 2007 for golf, staying for more than 10 days on each occasion. Officer Lee plainly asked the room salon owners to pay his golf fees.

The prosecutors detained four officers including Lee Sang-yoon yesterday for receiving bribes including cash, golf lesson fees and luxurious designer goods, four days after they filed warrants to detain them.

The prosecutors also raided their homes, vehicles and offices simultaneously on the same day and confiscated 200 million won worth of designer goods, including brand names such as Hermes, Mont Blanc and Armani, as well as golf clubs.

Shok News: Korean government protects Korean consumers from predatory Koreans

November 15th, 2011 . by Errol

On the south side of the Imjin River, the Korea Communications Commission has twice withheld approval for the discontinuation of KT’s 2G mobile phone service, as there are still approximately 160 thousand subscribers and there were insufficient user protections.

‘The Hankyoreh acquired an audio file Monday of operational orders given in mid-October at a KT branch in the greater Seoul area. In it, specific mention is made of causing disruptions to customers’ landline phone service and approaching the customers to urge a change to 3G service.

A supervisor is heard gathering employees and giving specific orders, stating, “Today, we are going to cause disruptions. I’ll give you a list, and you go in pairs to take care (of) it appropriately, by taking out the terminal box key or cutting the line or whatever have you.” ‘

ROK on the way to becoming a first world capitalist nation.

North of the Imjin, the Kim Gang are doing their best to uphold Han Pride in ripping people off.

‘ “In April last year, the North granted to two foreign companies the exclusive rights to develop a mine that a European venture capital firm had invested earlier. Upon learning this, the chairman of the venture firm reportedly visited the North in October last year and demanded an explanation from North Korean officials.

Another European entrepreneur who had been running a joint venture pig farm with the North since 2008 moved to halt operations there, citing unpaid account receivables. He then faced a murder threat.” ‘

“These (Korean) companies were caught while constantly lying to investors.”

November 12th, 2011 . by Errol

The Dong-A Ilbo`s business desk analyzed on Friday why 239 companies had delisted since 2009. Of these, 161 or 67.4 percent were delisted due to auditors’ rejection of audit results and lack of managerial transparency. That is, they were delisted because managerial situations, including financial statements submitted by those companies, were fabricated.

A source at the Korea Exchange said, “These companies were caught while constantly lying to investors.”

Park Gyeong-seo, a business management professor at Korea University in Seoul, said, “Outside directors and auditors have a limited capacity to survey and catch irregularities committed by companies,” adding, “Korea should move toward toughening punishment after the occurrence of irregularities, including strong legal action against top managers of such companies as in the U.S. and the U.K.”

Gloworks, a KOSDAQ-listed company, drew keen attention from the Korean securities market due to its bid to develop gold mines in Mongolia in 2009. Its stock price soared 327 percent from 545 won (50 cents) per share in April 2009 to 2,330 won (2 dollars) on Sept. 10. But the news on the gold mine development was a fabrication.

The company’s CEO was arrested in April this year on the charge of earning illegal profits of more than 70 billion won (622 million dollars) by rigging stock prices through fake disclosure. The company was delisted in June and investors took the brunt of the losses.

Korean Grand Prix to be replaced by New Jersey Grand Prix

The last US race was in 2008 at Indianapolis, but a new one will take place next year in Austin, Texas, before the Grand Prix of America in New Jersey in 2013.

The inclusion of Austin on next year’s schedule has already pushed the calendar to 20 races for the first time in history, and with Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone1 having previously indicated he wouldn’t like to go beyond that mark, some more established events would appear to be in jeopardy to accommodate confirmed future races in New Jersey and Russia.

Ecclestone cast doubt on the future of the Korean Grand Prix, in response to attempts by the Korean organiser2 of the race to renegotiate the contract.

Ecclestone said: “It is a disappointment, it really is. They didn’t get behind it. It was a big enough effort to get it on in the first place. There are lots of things you3 can’t afford; you don’t have to have it.”

He added: “It took long enough to negotiate [with] them4 in the first place.”

Construction site restaurants, corruption and the recession

Joongang Ilbo is touting the “low prices and tasty food” (forgive the Konglish) of construction site restaurants.

What does this have to do with corruption?

“Chang Soo-man, one of President Lee Myung-bak’s close associates, former Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) commissioner was imprisoned for four years for his involvement in improprieties connected with a construction site restaurant.”

Copyright ⓒ NEWSIS.COM, 2011-08-08

What does this have to do with the recession? The ROK rebounded quickly from previous recessions, as the desire to maintain chaemyeon meant ajeossi kept splashing cash on meals and entertainment. Restaurant and entertainment facilities owners then recycled the monies back into the wider economy.

Construction site restaurants, however, are often granted a monopoly licence. The narrowing of ownership means the wider economy receives less beneficial effects. For example, instead of a waitress spending the money on college tuition, the construction site franchise owner spends the money on overseas trips and fancy, foreign handbags.

Not good from a mercantilist economic policy philosophy, nor from a capitalist economic policy philosophy.

Korean taxpayers to make up shortfall if “Jeju School For Gangnam Kids” doesn’t repatriate to the UK a profit of 61.2 billion won by 2033

“The funding plan for North London Collegiate School (NLCS) Jeju, (Korea’s first profit-making school) stipulates that, if Haeul (the educational foundation that runs NLCS Jeju) is unable to pay principal and interest, JDC (Jeju Free International City Development Center)* will make these payments itself,” Democratic Labor Party (DLP) Congressional Representative Young-ghil Kwon.

Kwon further noted that; “It is highly likely that the operating losses from this ‘elite school’ will end up being paid for using the Korean people’s taxes.”

Korean gangsta rapper busted for trying to extort money from MILF

September 7th, 2011 . by Errol

Kyung (Kevin) Hoon Lee, of South Turramurra, faces up to 14 years in jail after he pleaded guilty to delivering the extortion letter to the victim’s $4 million Hunters Hill home on May 29.

Mr Lee’s co-conspirators, a 15-year-old girl and her 17-year-old brother, met Lee through ”rapping”.

Outside the court, Lee’s lawyer, Alexander Harmstorf, said: ”He’s extremely sorry and he will be back on the 21st [of] September to accept his penalty.”

Lee also enjoyed the kids’ company for a round of underage drinking

The gangsta rappa was given a suspended sentence on the 21st of September. He didn’t even have to hire a wheelchair, just a haircut and hitching his trousers up to hide his butt tatts … or maybe that was just a fashion statement.

No more hooning about the pubs of Sydeny (sic) with underaged mates or mooning the locals of Turramurra, or it’s straight to the pokey.

The ‘spread AIDS’ lobby

September 15th, 2008 . by Matt

What do you do when your homeland is going down the toilet, and there are well connected people and organisations that actually support spreading AIDS? I don’t know. If you do, let me know.

The latest from the ‘spread AIDS’ lobby is their reaction to a 2 1/2 month jail sentence given to a HIV positive male prostitute in the ACT, Australia.

Australia’s peak sex workers association says the jail term prostitute sends a “disgraceful” message that having sex with an infected person is unsafe.

The Scarlet Alliance chief executive Janelle Fawkes said the organisation was “appalled” by the decision, saying she was extremely concerned at the possible repercussions after this kind of message.

“Last week, the ACT attorney-general, Simon Corbell, came out and stated that Section 25 should be reviewed and considering current risk in transmission that, in fact, an HIV positive person being a sex worker does not hold a higher risk for the community,” Ms Fawkes said.

“But this week, we have a judge in the ACT making an example of a person who was only being a sex worker whilst HIV-positive.

“That sends a clear and cutting message that having sex with an HIV-positive person is unsafe and that is simply not true.”

The same activity in NSW and several other states would not be deemed illegal, Ms Fawkes said.

Having sex with a HIV positive person “does not hold a higher risk for the community”? That is absolutely insane. Of course there is a higher risk of contracting HIV from someone that is HIV positive, because the risk of contracting it from someone that does not have HIV is zero.

“Sex worker whilst HIV-positive”? Is that supposed to be something like “driving whilst black”? These people are lunatics, and people could contract HIV or AIDS because of their activism.

Having sex with HIV positive people is unsafe. What on earth is this country coming to?
