Deadbeat Dads and No Show Moms: 1 million orphans in Korea

August 1st, 2012 . by Errol

“(B)abies born into unprepared (Korean) families are likely to be sent to one of the 30,000 children’s orphanages across the nation where more than 1 million children are currently taken care of.”

There are about 10 million Korean children up to 18 years of age. i.e. 10% of Korean children are in orphanages.

3 causes: condoms not used, contraceptive pills not used, marital breakdown.

Official number of abortions in Korea in 2011 was “about 170,000 (down) from 340,000 (in 2005), according to statistics from the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

However, the actual number of abortions is likely much higher given that abortions are still illegal (in Korea), with some exceptions, so many of them are not reported, analysts said. If a woman’s life is threatened by infectious disease, or if a woman has been raped, abortions are legal.”

The Korea Times, 1 August 2012

20 000 US military servicemen in Korea impregnated 50 Korean women each (not).
