Playing Dress-up in Japan, a new craze?

March 11th, 2007 . by Gerry-Bevers

According to this link, there seems to be a new craze spreading in Japan, where young Japanese dress up as characters from movies, comic books, and video games. The linked site has several interesting pictures, including the one I am posting below:

Not exactly new, cosplaying has been going on for years now. There are also lots of foreigners who are into the whole otaku culture thing. About half of my Japanese language classes in America were made up of otaku like these guys:

Wow, now that’s what I call clueless about Japanese culture. If you wanted proof that Gerry-Bevers is not a Japanophile I think this post is about as good as it gets 🙂

This only proves one thing. There is no prostitution in Japan. Clean wholesome pure Japan, where they are totally moral and who can do nothing wrong.

Are you saying that cosplay is the same thing as prostitution?

    Is this a case of world-famous hwa-byung?

Going back to the model in the picture, the face is ugly, but the body is fuckable. I’ll have to slam it hard and be careful not to break it.

TMAN, dude, take a chill pill. Do you only post drunk or something?

    Avery,

Yes, I am clueless about Japanese culture, especially Japanese teen culture. In fact, I do not really know much about Korean teen culture, even though I live in Korea. I do not get out much, and I do not read about it in the newspapers or watch it on TV. Maybe, I should start paying more attention.

Are you Korean or ethnic Korean?

I’m an anime or a school girl in uniform, whatever your heart desire. Want my soiled panty?

This kind of people are not so popular even in Japan. So if you want to watch them, I recommend you to check the schedule of the famous&terrible comic market 🙂

Are you ashamed of you nationality or ethnicity?

    I am Japanese.

Not a surprising comment given Korean men’s obsession with Japanese pornography.

Japanese womens’ obsession with Korean men:

I’m sorry for you Japanese men, so short and weak that your own women don’t want you.

Notice that the only ones who believe the utter laughable bullshit that Japanese women are lusting after Korean men are Koreans themselves..but NEVER Japanese girls. If Koreans were to go ask Japanese girls (who are under the age of 50 of course!) about how attractive Korean guys are, they would get laughed in the face.

None of the Japanese girls I know really thinks Korean men are good looking. Most of them say that they look very “dasai” and have really big wide heads and faces. Maybe that is what is considered attractive in Korea. LOL.

Oh, and puhlease…not another Korean going on and talking about height? Jesus Christ, Koreans are the epitome of short-dari midgets and they always yap about how Japanese are short? That makes as much sense as a pig making fun of a dog by saying he is a dirty animal. Well, on the other hand, Korea is the only place where a weird jaw-grinding plastic surgery is performed to make their faces look smaller so I wouldn’t be surprised if they are the leaders in leg implants to make themselves taller.

Jesus, such self esteem images these Koreans have with their looks. Seriously, the most insecure and inferiority complex-ridden people in the world! How funny.

Wiesunja, while I agree with your comments I wish you’d refrain from using profanity. I think you’re eloquent enough to express yourself clearly and convincingly without the use of such language.
Thanks for the link, btw. Interesting read.

wiesunja, I second what HanComplex says. You need to cool down. Although what tman said is objectionable, you could have replied to him without being objectionable yourself.

tman, you are dreaming. Japanese womens obsession with Korean men exists nowhere except in your mind. Ah, well, some Japanese women are obsessed with Korean men.

I actually remember an incident last year when a bunch of (maybe older) Japanese ladies hurt each other in a crowd as they tried to push past each other in a mad rush to see an opening photographic exhibition of some Korean TV stars new and improved studly body.

Did anyone else catch this? I think it may have been in the Japan Times?

By the looks of the old ladies from Matt’s link, I am guessing some of these injuries must have been broken hips!

Gotta give it up for those Korean boys for giving these old gals some pleasure. When the Korean Melodramas hit the air in Japan, its nice to know that the TV is not the only thing that gets turned on at Grandma’s house!

    Hey Matt and Hancomplex,

Sorry guys for being too rough on yet again, another Korean troll who comes to infest this site. However, I don’t recall using any profanity. After all, I am not Korean (LOL).

Correction Matt! Japanese women’s obsession with Korean men exist nowhere except in the minds of KOREANS ONLY.

Lol! I find it extremly hilarious how a typical post about cos play some how turns into…. well you know.
(Another rant about the evil inferior Japan.)

I mean for real though some people here are actually grading the cos player chicks looks, when imo she’s just a cos play chick.
    Nothing less & nothing more.

I sincerly doubt that she was meant to be portrayed as a sex object.

I’m sorry for you Japanese men, so short and weak that your own women don’t want you.

    Ahh hah, the comedy ensues
Last I checked, Koreans aren’t very tall either.
    Asians in general, are short.
    (Except for Somoans.)
BTW Japanese individuals such as Giant Baba,Antonio Inoki,Masahiro Chono, etc. aren’t exactly what I would consider short.

I don’t recall using any profanity. After all, I am not Korean (LOL).

You may not be using any profanity, but you do make a lot of blanket border line racist statements that could be taken out of context,& used as ammo against the blog.

(Not that it matters since I agree with them, heh.)

I don’t go to comikes, but I sure wouldn’t mind watching these cos-players. It’s fun.
Actually, many of the Jp cos-players are really attractive and the energy they put into the cos-playing is nothing to laugh about.
I envy that they have something they love that they can languish so much time and effort into.

BTW, tman, thank you for disclosing to us how bulgar, sexist and unrefined you are 🙂
