The creator of D&D, Gary Gygax, has passed away.

I played as a teenager, read the books, and even as an adult played the computer games. It was a great adventure in this fantasy world he created. Keep adventuring, Gary.

Thanks to T_K for the heads up.

World of Warcraft and other MMORPGs are all direct descendants of his creation. The concept of creating your own fictional character and acting out adventures seems so natural now, yet he was the first to actually publish a product based on it. The tropes that came with the original D&D still define the genre so much that any WoW character would feel right at home in Gary’s original setting.
