Jukdo and the Peaks of Ulleungdo

April 26th, 2007 . by Gerry-Bevers

The following is a picture of Ulleungdo’s neighboring island of Jukdo, with Ulleungdo’s magnificent peaks in the background. I can only dream of having such a view in my own backyard. Some of you have probably seen this picture before, but it is springtime and time to see it, again.

    Wow! Beautiful!
Much different from the rock islets – Takeshima/Dokdo!
It seems that people can cultivate and live here!
Imagine that Japanese were boiling fish here and Ahn Yongbok came from the main island yelling….

It seems quite peaceful island to enjoying fishing, then seafood barbeque and camping?
.But I read somewhere,in the strait btw Ullungdo and Jukdo has strong current.

I don’t know why Japanese wrote this Jukdo竹島 as “Wotsusemiヲツセミ island” on “通商彙纂”No.234,in 16Oct by Office of Commerce, Foreign affairs. What’s the meaning of Wotsusemi?(外務省通商局編纂 通商彙纂第234号)

“It is said that “Wotsusemiヲツセミ”Island is located on the water in front of Wadachiri臥達里,so-called Takeshima by Japanese, Area is about 30丁square.(1丁=9,917㎡, 30丁=297,510㎡)
There are “Tabu”Female Bamboo(タブ女竹),but no resident there because of no drinking water.

I don’t know Wotsusemi but Utsusemi (空蝉)means “this life” (the life you are living).

I really miss Oahu. Even though I was busy and didn’t take advantage of the time there, I was so much more relaxed, because the beauty of the scenery was around you all the time – and the weather was perfect…..
