Korean firms choosing cheaper, younger employees

July 17th, 2014 . by Errol

The weak economic outlook in Korea has forced companies to favour cheaper, younger recruits over more expensive older employees.

About 56 percent of total requests from recruiters for the first five months of 2014 were for workers with less than five years experience.

That’s probably better than the current situation in Australia where firms prefer to only hire people who are not very old but just old enough to have gained some useful experience working somewhere else in the same industry. Plenty of young Australians never get a chance to get the experience needed for that worthwhile second job.
