Korean Rum Diary – funny!

August 18th, 2009 . by Matt

Ah, this Korean Rum Diary guy is hilarious. I also find it pretty funny that Koreans will insist a native speaker is wrong about this or that, especially when the critic is unable to speak the language in question.

To the Korean Rum Diary guy – fight back by giving these kids authentic American names. Tyrone Jackson. D’Shawn Washington. Lakisha Brown. See if the Korean parents object, and on what basis.

Great to see that you have rediscovered the keyboard Matt!

About 20 years ago some Chinese Kong folk felt the the same need for an “English” name. Often just chosen to sound nice, there were some funny ones: from memory – Marigold Deng, a fine young man, and Pudenda Wong, but she got sorted out in Hong Kong.

It’s funny how we find it easy to pronounce Korean family names, but their given names are so hard to get right. Often the Mandarin or Japanese readings of the same characters are easier for us, not that that is much use.
