I like the graphic. Did you make it?
Anyways, I got a “you dirty racist pig dog” comment while I was sleeping last night as well. I responded as I think the person is off base, but it did make me want to look back on my posts and be sure that I’m not saying anything that could be misunderstood. It’s never a bad thing to just take a step back and make sure we’re not getting carried away.
Adversely, I think people drop the “you’re just a racist” accusation when they can’t handle the truth and have no counter argument. Those people also seem to be big-time hypocrites as well. For example the guy on my site last night used multiple-generalizations and then told me generalizations are bad. I just don’t get it.
I don’t think I’m a racist, and I don’t think you are either. I think we both just read the trends. Tends not based on people’s race, but on their background — IE where they were born and raised — as that, at least to me, clearly is the ultimate deciding factor of a persons opinions and actions. As to why a majority of your posts (and mine too) are about Korea these days, well Korea is in the news these days, in the news for doing stupid things. Stop doing stupid things and people wont think you’re stupid. 火のないところに煙は立たない right.

I left a comment over at the Metroblah site. I can’t stand the ‘racist’ label being slung around like that. The guy is a hypocrite (or maybe I’m slinging that too much).

Thanks Richardson. Take a look at his latest reply – he has descended into self parody. He has knocked down so many strawmen that he might soon start hanging them from trees or drag them behind him with his pickup truck. Ouch!

    Hey Matt,

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. So your site is biased and shows only the negative aspects of Korea. Big whoop. It’s like that age old adage, “I can only report what consitututes the largest percentage of the reality.”

Fact is, that it would be great if Korea was like Thailand, India, Vietnam, Japan, etc. Sure, there is alot of crap which I don’t like and get fed up with in those countries, but because the good experiences in those countries totally outweigh all the negative ones, I prefer to remember and portray those countries in a good light.

Can’t say the same for Korea at all. The good experiences and images are there…it’s just too bad they make up less than 1% of the total.

In closing, I will say that maybe it’s a good idea to sort of sort of mellow down the truth telling about Korea. It’s obvious that the Korea-apologists cannot stand two things: 1) Japan being shown in a good light 2) The truths of Korean exposed as is without the typical Korean white washing.

Thus, their reaction is to label you a racist, etc. If you let it get under your skin too much, it kind of makes you look as pathetic as the Koreans who constantly obsess about comparing themselves to Japan and jumping for joy with glee at the discovery of any small tid bit of news showing Japan in a negative light.

As for me, I don’t worry too much about Koreans. All in all, they are interesting and funny little people. I love it the way they foam at the mouth and get angry when they are trapped in a corner and realize that they have no logical defense for a criticism which they have brought against themselves. It’s really cute and funny to see them say “Arrgh! I don’t care about facts! It’s just a known fact that we Koreans are superior to Japan even though we have no logical basis! Why can’t foreigners agree with our Korean logic? Why do they laugh at us?? Waaaaa!”

All in all, they are an insignificant country with a very wasteful society. If anything, as they have always done in history, even when they seem to be coming out over the top, they always manage to screw things up and of course blame others for their misfortune. I just take this as a given and consider them more for their comedic entertainment value than an actual equivalent.

What can I say? It amazes me that someone can be so insensible and insensitive these days as to go fling accusations of racism willy nilly. I have tried to help him examine his own thought processes more closely.

Unfortunately, when people are so determined to judge others in a harsh and unfair light, you have to abandon them to their current growth phase until they eventually re-examine their values and behaviors for themselves.

“…combined with the way you yourself describe, in extreme detail, your sexual romps with Asian women”

I’m sorry. I must have mised this post. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

dead, he is referring to stuff I wrote back in 2001, about events that took place in 2000. They are on this site, under the ‘battle reports’ category, although his interpretation of them is way off.

See my last post there. Michael deferred to our judgement and I’ll bet he’s sorry about that now.

Either that or you’ve got more loyal readers than he does!

I am afraid I dont know anything about golf 🙁

  13. comment number 13 by: Ell

Why should Matt be reporting about golf tournament???

  14. comment number 14 by: Errol

It’s not about the “golf tournament” per se. It’s about Australian, Korean and gender relations in the 21st C.

  15. comment number 15 by: Ell

I still don’t see by what criteria you think Matt should have posted something on that subject.
Why don’t you write a little something about it and post it here?

“The good experiences and images are there…it’s just too bad they make up less than 1% of the total.”

Ok. YOu said it less than 1%? What kind of experience did you had in korea to make it think that you had less than 1% of good experience and images. So if you want to explain your answer list about 99 bad things you had in korea and list 1 good one. or maybe 199 bad ones and 1 good one to make it less than 1% which is your strong claim.

I agree koreans are racist. I talk about that with my korean friends a lot. They actually agree and say it’s true. But why they don’t seem too much pay attention when those non-koreans telling them they are so racist? Answer is so simple. It’s just not worth to listen from people who do the samething who always want to make themselves look innocent by saying they are the only people who get treated racially.

  18. […] In a kind of redux of Michael from Scribblings of the Metropolitician calling Occidentalism ‘racist’, Michael the Metropolitician has struck at Occidentalism again, associating me and this site with everything from slavery, nazism, pedophilia, the KKK, and even going as far as to suggest that I wrote a lewd comment on his blog about how “good and tight” Asian womens sexual organs are (See what I actually wrote – no mention of Asian women at all).
